Community Involvement

Churches Together

We are part of Kirkcudbright Churches Together, made up of the Catholic Church, Church of Scotland and Community Church in our town. We meet regularly to chat and pray, and we plan services together to celebrate particular Christian festivals.

Stewartry Food Bank

foodbank
Churches Together in Kirkcudbright manage the local foodbank.

Donations are gathered on the second Tuesday of each month from 9-9.30am at the right side-door of Kirkcudbright Parish Church.

The foodbank is currently running short of most things (apart from tea, biscuits and pasta sauce) and will be pleased to receive any donations of food and toiletries. In particular, we need main meals (tinned stew, mince, meatballs etc.); tinned fruit, puddings and vegetables; cereals (particularly packs which can be sub-divided e.g. Weetabix, as many of our customers are single people) and toiletries (especially shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste)

If this collection time is inconvenient,  donations can be put at any time into boxes in Keystore and the Co-op in Kirkcudbright and in Gatehouse Stores.

If you are struggling to afford food you can call the foodbank number any time and someone will try to assist you. Tel: 07387 658177

Summer Festivities

We are delighted to be an integral part of some of the town events, for instance we are a venue for Spring Fling, the Jazz Festival, Art & Crafts Trail. Our church will be lit up for the Lantern Parade. We support the Tattoo, Parade Day and run our Winter Wonderland in conjunction with the festivities planning group.

Planning your Visit

New to church?

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at Greyfriars Church (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 11am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service. It is a great way to meet people and find out more about us.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. If you need a large print service book, please ask.

Our Service

The main service begins with a warm welcome from our Priest-in-Charge. Our service of Holy Communion includes hymns accompanied on the organ, bible readings, a sermon, prayers of intercession and responses. If you are a communicant member of another church, you are invited to share Holy Communion with us. Or if you prefer, you can come to the altar for a prayer of blessing.

Serving and Volunteering

Once you've settled here with us, if you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team. It's also a great way to get to know more people.
